Mayweather vs Mosley Round by Round Recap

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0) remained unbeaten with a 12-round unanimous decision over Shane Mosley (46-6) in their welterweight bout tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Two judges scored it 119-109 and another had it 118-110 in favor of Mayweather.

The Times' Kevin Baxter was ringside and filed this recap:

The time for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley to stop talking and start punching is drawing near tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Following an eight-bout undercard that lasted more than five hours, Mosley, a world champion at three weights, is the first of the main-event fighters into the crowded ring, leading an entourage of about a half-dozen people on the slow, short walk from the dressing room into the sold-out arena at 8:25 p.m.

That marks the first time the Pomona fighter has been in a boxing ring for a fight since he beat Antonio Margarito at Staples Center in January 2009, an absence of 461 days.

Mayweather, unbeaten in 40 fights, follows a full five minutes later with an over-of-top entrance that includes fireworks and a live musical performance music by the O'Jays, who sign "For the Love of Money" as they make their way into the ring.

If the judges were scoring this, they probably would have given the entrance to Mayweather, though they certainly should have deducted points for excessive use of arrogance.

Among the celebrities in attendance are former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, who made a much-more-understated entrance just before the fifth round of the final undercard bout. Other luminaries ringside include former boxers Oscar De La Hoya; Sugar Ray Leonard and Mike Tyson; rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs; basketball’s Magic Johnson; California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger; actress Eva Longoria; and actors Michael J. Fox, Mark Wahlberg, Will Smith and Jamie Foxx.

Referee Kenny Bayless, meanwhile, is the third man in the ring.

Round 12: Mosley needs a miracle now and Mayweather isn't going to let him close enough to get it. Whenever Mosley gets close Mayweather either backs away -- waaaay away -- or wraps his opponent in a clinch. Mosley throws a wild left and Mayweather responds with a right that lands. Both fighters throw wild punches in the final seconds.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mayweather wins, 117-110 (unofficial)

Round 11: In his corner between rounds, Mosley looks like a beaten fighter. He's still jittery, bouncing on his toes in the ring but Mayweather is toying with him. Mayweather is fighting defensively, but that's also his best offense -- let Mosley miss with a punch and counter by landing a stronger one. Mayweather misses with both punches in a combination with 1:07 to go. Mayweather lands a left with about 25 seconds left but it didn't have much steam. Mayweather gets off another right to the side of Mosley's head.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mayweather leads, 107-101

Round 10: Mayweather is leaning back, avoiding the punches that Mosley was landing in the opening two rounds. He gets off two short, solid rights in the opening seconds, then follows it with a left about a half-minute later. Perhaps out of fatigue, Mosley's hands are down and that's making Mayweather's job a little easier. Mosley is showing some fight but not enough and Mayweather gets off a good combination with about a minute left in the round. Mosley's face is red and flushed, though it's unclear if any of that is blood.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mayweather leads, 97-92

Round 9: Mosley is in danger of being knocked out. He needs to regain the pace he had in the first two rounds but it doesn't appear to be in him. Mayweather, on the other hand -- most likely a strong right -- looks to be one clean punch away from ending this. Mayweather is landing short lefts, mostly to the side or back of Mosley's head where they aren't doing much damage. He starts the last minute of the round with a short right that stung Mosley. Mayweather for the first time looks a bit fatigued.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mayweather leads, 87-83

Round 8: Mosley does not appear to be bleeding but his eyes are swollen. Mayweather still looks fresh. Mosley is warned by Bayless for clinching and throwing his opponent into the ropes. As the two fighters go back to the center of the ring, Mayweather catches Mosley with a sharp left that almost looks like a sucker punch. Mayweather lands another hard right with 1:15 to go. Mosley is still breathing open-mouthed while Mayweather's lips are clenched tight around his mouthpiece.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mayweather leads, 77-74

Round 7: The fight is more than half over and Mayweather is beginning to take control. Mayweather lands a left to the side of Mosley's head about 50 seconds into the round. A strong right again stops Mosley's advance. Another strong right to the face with about 62 seconds left rocks Mosley, and Mayweather lands another punch a few seconds later. Mosley charges back but he's hurt.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mayweather leads, 67-65

Round 6: Mayweather is gaining confidence with each round. Mayweather continues trying to lure Mosley close. A left jab stops just short of Mosley's nose. Mayweather lands a strong right that shook Mosley. Then Mayweather reaches him with another short right. Mayweather is missing with his lefts, though, Mosley's mouth is open and he may be feeling his 461-day layoff. Mayweather doesn't seem to be breathing hard.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mayweather leads, 57-56

Round 5: While Mosley keeps looking low, Mayweather is having some success going over the top. Now Mosley is clinching. Mosley's eyes are swelling. Mayweather is, at time, seeming to invite Mosley close by dropping his hands. Mosley remains cautious and at a distance. Mayweather misses with a wild hook but later lands a right.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Fight is a draw, 47-47

Round 4: Mayweather is probing rather than just swinging at the start of this round. But Mosley still won't let him close. Mosley's speed clearly has Mayweather worried and you have to wonder what an even faster fighter like Manny Pacquiao would do to Mayweather. Mayweather lands a right counterpunch midway through the round. He lands a jab and another right in the final 40 seconds. Mosley's pace has slowed considerably and he spends much of the last half-minute backing up.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mosley leads, 38-37

Round 3:
Mosley twice stung Mayweather with rights in the second round so Mayweather tries to go on the offensive in the third. But that's not his game. He looks angry, not patient. Mosley has clearly gotten Mayweather out of his game as Mayweather is now going forward rather than laying back waiting to counter. Mayweather's punches aren't finding their range and now Mosley appears content to lay back. Mayweather is much more active but his punches aren't effective. The pace slows down markedly in the final minute.

Mayweather's round, 10-9. Mosley leads, 29-27

Round 2: Mosley races out and ducks again, this time grabbing Mayweather around the waist and wrestling him into a neutral corner. Mayweather ducks a strong right. Mosley ducks a wild left, then lands a right. Mayweather clinches but Mosley breaks away and chases after him. Mayweather appears flustered. Mosley's speed is stunning him. The best Mayweather can do is clinch. Mosley is all over him, in the center of the ring, on the ropes. Mayweather's only answer is to clinch, trying to slow the aggressive Mosley's charge. The crowd is on its feet chanting "Mosley! Mosley! Mosley!"

Mosley's round, 10-8. Mosley leads, 20-17

Round 1: Mosley comes charging out to the center of the ring at the bell. Twice he ducks low but can't get off a punch. Mosley is feeling out Mayweather with this right, holding the left cocked. He's active but Mayweather won't let him near. Mayweather lands two rights midway through the round and Mosley stumbles trying to back away but the referee rules it is not a knockdown. Mosley never fully went down anyway. The pair clinch a half-dozen times in the round.

Mayweathe is Destined to Defeat Mosley

Watch Mayweather vs Mosley Online Free - Floyd Mayweather Jnr says he does not think there is a fighter out there who has the gumption to beat him.

The 33-year-old US fighter from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is the former undefeated WBC super featherweight, lightweight and light welterweight; IBF and IBO welterweight; WBC welterweight and junior middleweight titlist.

Mayweather, who is also widely known as “Money” in the fistic sport, is undefeated in 40 fights, with 25 stoppages.

The American takes on Shane “Sugar” Mosley for the WBA super welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 1.

The fighter many people love to hate is the bookies’ bet to easily brush aside Mosley.

He has beaten great boxers such as a Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Phillip Ndou, Arturo Gatti, Sharmba Mitchell, Zab Judah, Oscar de la Hoya and Ricky Hatton.

He told Fightnews.Com that: “There’s a blueprint on Shane, he has five losses. Nobody has beaten me.

“The ultimate goal is to try build a fighter that can beat me.

“I think he’s out of character. We know the soft-spoken Shane Mosley. Now he’s 38 years old getting tattooed.

“We don’t know how long Shane has been doing PED’s (performance-enhancing drugs). All of these fighters have been cheating for years. People have been hurt by cheaters. I want to do the sport and I want to do it clean. I’m the face of boxing and am here to clean it up.”

Mayweather’s great skills make boxing look easy. Many are of the opinion that he can beat opponents with his eyes closed. He is a rare breed.

The free-talking American is under the tutelage of his uncle Roger “Black Mamba” Mayweather, who is a former WBC and IBO junior welterweight, and IBO and IBA welterweight champion.

Some fight fans, though, say his fights are boring, but Mayweather, who is known for shooting from the hip, retorted : “It’s not my fault that I’m so much better than fighters that am facing. It’s always so one- sided. They want to see me fight in a toe-to- toe battle. I’m just a smart and a very intelligent fighter.” Watch Mayweather vs Mosley Online Free

Watch Mayweather vs Mosley Online Free - HBO’s 24/7 Argue Oscar's Claim

Watch Mayweather vs Mosley Online Free - GOLDEN Boy Promotions top honchos CEO Richard Schaefer and owner Oscar De La Hoya have been found lying again regarding the random blood tests conducted by the US Anti Doping Agency.

In criticizing Manny Pacquiao, who agreed to take the tests provided they were done 24 days before his planned March 13 fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., both Schaefer and De La Hoya said that the Filipino champ’s claim that he feels week when blood is extracted too close to a fight was false and that only a teaspoon of blood would be taken.

The first episode of HBO’s 24/7 series featuring the May 1 Mayweather-Shane Mosley fight proved both men were wrong, if not guilty of deliberate falsehoods.

That’s because when they tested Mosley at his training camp in Big Bear, the vials shown on television didn’t have a teaspoon or a drop, but a considerable amount of blood. Mosley even looked weak when it was over.

In fact, he told ABS-CBN’s Joseph Pimentel that the testing was “aggressive.”

Mosley certainly didn’t look at all pleased that every time the testers visit him at training camp, his schedule would be disrupted in an invasive manner, which was what Pacquiao feared.

The 24/7 episode also indicated that the random testing procedure takes several hours, perhaps four or five, to complete. One post by Avi Korine on The Rumble internet site even noted, Mayweather was strangely excited when the testers showed up, even though it meant he was forced to spend the next five hours in their presence.

“His strange celebration seemed forced and actually made me cringe,” wrote Korine.

Pacquiao’s conditioning expert Alex Ariza said he couldn’t finish watching the episode because it was so repulsive to watch Mayweather.

“It was nauseating. Not interesting at all,” said Ariza, who noted that they took “at least three or four vials of blood and it was not the drop or teaspoon that Schaefer and De La Hoya said it would be.”

He also pointed out that the testing took a lot of time.

“Five hours to wait around, and it absolutely disrupted training,” said Ariza, seemingly reiterating what Pacquiao didn’t want 14 days before a fight, which was what Mayweather insisted on.

In the meantime, the executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission Keith Kizer told Manila Standard that nothing had changed from his last communication, in which he revealed that Golden Boy Promotions told him the NSAC would get a copy of the USADA test results.

“Up to now, we haven’t received anything” said Kizer.

The Heat Is On! Mayweather vs Mosley

In the upcoming May 1st Pay-Per-View event Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Shane Mosley, the pressure on each fighter to perform is definitely high. Many boxing fans are ready and thrilled to watch the two fighter fight in the ring, many wanted to see Mayweather get beaten down by Mosley especially pacman fans, while others wanted him to win for a chance to fight Manny Pacquiao. and other just wanted to see Mayweather get beaten down because of his antagonist image.

As Pacquiao-Clottey may have done 700,000 buys, but about 695,000 of the buyers wanted a little more action thought it turn into a frustration because of the other fight (Joshua Clottey) won't even throw a punch. Since Mayweather is fighting the first real threat to his "0" in a long time, we can expect Mayweather-Mosley to do about a million Pay-Per-View Buys which officially makes it a "big event". Their bout is also complete with its own 24/7 promotional reality show.

It is also very important for the sport of boxing that they turn in a good fight so it will be still attracts more fans to watch and support the game. In the last two years or so, we have seen the rise of Mayweather and Pacquiao from being known only to the boxing faithful to crossover superstars and their fights automatically gathered the public's attention.

Mayweather-Mosley
should not give another dull exhibitions like what had Clottey did, showing up just for the money. If "Money" Floyd turns in another dull boxing exhibition, he'll face the same old criticism that he always has despite taking on a legitimate threat and Shane will simply look old and used up. But if Shane can find a way to get to Mayweather and force the "Pretty Boy" to throw some punches, there is a real chance both men's stock will rise.

Mayweather vs Mosley Promotion Begins With A Bang

Loud music blasting heavily over the loudspeakers, smoke billowed across the stage, and the curtain dropped to reveal The two great Fighters That Will fight on May 1st 2010 at Las Vegas Nevada. Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley dressed to the nines as a crowd of several thousands inside the Nokia Theater let out a roar.

After almost lengthy introductions that would have made silver-tongued Michael Buffer blush, the unbeaten Mayweather and the welterweight champion Mosley sauntered to the middle of the stage and stood face to face. Jawing turned to pointing, pointing turned to shoving, and before long, promoters from both camps were rushing forward to separate them. Perhaps the altercation was staged, but it’s hard to fake the animosity between them.

This well be a very exciting fight, much exciting than Pacquiao vs Clottey fight. Which most of us knew how boring it's for Clottey just showed up for payday. And now that Mayweather vs Mosley fight are now set and ready to go many boxing fans are now eager to see Mayweather get beatean by Shane Mosley or the other way around to give chance for the Pacquiao vs Mayweather bout.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao Cutting Through The Issue

In 2008, Mayweather has stopped Ricardo Mayorga in the final round in what was an even fight at that point. This is the same Mayorga that Oscar De La Hoya easily destroyed and the same one that Felix Trinidad battered. Mosley should have dominated the fight, but he had trouble and Floyd is eager to beat him this coming May 1st.

Manny Pacquiao with a record of 51-3-2, 38 KO’s, and owns the WBO Welterweight Title. In his last defense at for the title “The Event,” Manny Pacquiao easily outworked the Ghanian challenger, Joshua Clottey, owning every single round to conclude for a unanimous decision. It’s difficult being Manny Pacquiao because the easiest thing to do is to tear down the opposition. Oscar De La Hoya was spent, Miguel Cotto was mentally shot, Ricky Hatton was never that good, and Joshua Clottey showed up for a payday. All that aside, Manny still won and forced some good fighters to quit.

If there are two fighters battling in the public for the right to be called “Pound for Pound King” The more popular at this point is Manny Pacquiao and he makes a good case. He has already beaten some of the best fighters in the game, and even sending most of them into retirement. He has beaten "El Terible" Erik Morales not once but twice, Marco Antonio Barrera also twice, Juan Manual Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, and the latest Joshua Clottey. He has proven what a fighter in his position should be doing and that is to fight the best available opponent.

The other pugilist with a case is Floyd Mayweather, JR., 40-0, 25 KO’s, currently under training, preparing for his May 1st bout with Sugar Shane Mosley, the only other big name in the division outside of Pacquiao. Floyd must win this fight. Shane had his back and forth with Cotto in 2007 and scored the knockout over “Hands of Plaster” Antonio Margarito in early 2009, but other than those two outings, he has looked less than prodigious.

As popular as Manny Pacquiao is, Floyd Mayweather is still the best man to face on the ring gain the all the respect from boxing fans of Mayweather. He’s never lost, dominates his opposition with ease, and has beaten his fair share of great fighters including Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, Arturo Gatti, Oscar De La Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez, Genaro Hernandez, and Zab Judah. Some question the record of Floyd, but when you examine it closely, you have to be impressed. Some say he is the modern day Pernell Whitaker…a genius in the boxing ring.

Pacquiao stated that he wanted the winner of Floyd/Mosley next, which means he wants Floyd, but the fight fell apart on one occasion…it’s possible that it might fall through again considering the demands of both sides.

Floyd Mayweather is referred as the villain. He is a thug and had a lot of antics, Manny is humble…well, that’s the sale. Floyd sells tickets as the bad guy in the movie that you want to see lose. He talks big, flashes money, and even refers to himself as “Money Mayweather.” Definitely many people want to see him lose, so it translates into Manny winning. This sort of thinking is rampant with boxing fans, especially those that are considered “die hard” or live vicariously through the athlete.

Pacquiao has a big chance to win when he eventually clashes with Floyd. He’s quick and hits hard, but getting through the defense of Floyd and overcoming the precision and timing is going to be a hard thing to do for the Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao.

With Pacquiao getting by Clottey, that leaves Floyd to beat Mosley and when he does, the two will negotiate again and hopefully they will sign to fight in the biggest fight in the past 10 years, when Floyd remains the man to beat. What is so exciting about it is that Manny will have the best chance thus far throughout the boxing career of Mayweather or even compared to other greatest fighter, and if anyone can do it, he can, but the odds are still against him. At least both parties seem eager to settle the score and the public demand is so high that it will most likely happen.

Mayweather vs. Mosley. Who Will Win?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley have reportedly agreed to terms for a welterweight title fight on May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas (and on HBO PPV). It's not Manny Pacquiao-Mayweather but it's the next best thing, right? Yes ... if the fight actually takes place.

Mosley signed his contract last Friday. Five days later, Mayweather still hasn't signed. Ever the prima donna, perhaps Pretty Boy is simply stringing everyone along. Or maybe Mayweather is reconsidering risking his undefeated record against the 38-year-old Mosley. Let's hope it's the former . . .

Given the fight's uncertainty, we offer a somewhat unusual poll. If you believe the fight will take place, tell us who you think will win. On the other hand, if you believe the fight won't happen, then vote "Fight won't happen".

Mayweather vs Mosley get Physical on their first press conference

As they posed for pictures at the first press conference together, "Money" Mayweather lost his usual cool as both men exchanged shoves.

The contest between Mosley and Mayweather, at welterweight (147lbs), was made when the intended match-up between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fell through with the two camps unable to agree on pre-fight drugs testing.

Mayweather has since insisted he wants to “clean up” the sport of boxing.

"When it comes to performance enhancement drugs, I stepped up the plate. I want to show the world that my sport is clean.”

On yesterday’s altercation, motormouth Mayweather explained: "Our noses touched. don't like nothing but the ladies. I don't mind the trash talking but he grabbed my hands. I said, 'Don't put your hands on me.' I pushed him away.

"It takes two to make a mega fight. Shane Mosley is one of the best welterweights of our era and I want to fight the best and continue to fight the best. I am not only in the fight business; I am in the check cashing business.

"I am able to generate millions of dollars. They say Shane is the WBA Champion, but we all know that belts do nothing but collect dust.

"You can hate it or love it, but this is a God given ability. I am taking these skills and showing the world that I am going to entertain.

"There's always an excuse. If I beat someone, they say he's over the hill. If I beat someone else, they say he is too slow. I can just be me and be the best.

"There is nothing cool about taking punishment. There is nothing cool about getting hit in the head. There is no blue print to beat me, and that is all that matters. You can't judge a person before you know a person. I am just like every body else. I go home I love my children, I love my mother, but I also have a gift."

Mosley added: "May 1 symbolizes something. After this fight, it is going to be clear. It is going to be the date of Mayweather's first loss. It has been a long time since I have had a chance to show the world that I am the best fighter. I have wanted to be the best and have people understand that I am the best.

"I just want to say I am going to take my hat off to Mayweather. For a minute I wasn't going to get a fight from any of these top fighters and now I will. I would like to say that it is going down May 1 and it is going to be me and Money Mayweather."

Naazim Richardson, Mosley's trainer, believes it will be a close contest, in spite of insiders believing Mayweather will be too slick for Mosley, who is renowned more for power and who has had greater success against come-forward fighters. Mayweather prefers to react as a counter puncher.

"You can't really say one is better than the other. At this level they are both special. It's proven,” said Richardson. "This will be one of the great ones. One-hundred-forty-seven pounds is a premiere weight class. May 1, Shane will matchup against one of the best athletes in the sport."

Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, believes it will be a classic.

"We are here in a big mega fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sugar Shane Mosley," he said.

"This fight reminds me of Sugar Ray Leonard-Thomas Hearns, the classic fights we used to watch on TV. It's like watching the Super Bowl or the NBA Championship. It's boxing's version of the World Series. I fought both fighters and I know what is going to happen. Do you want to know what I think? I know there is going to be a knock-out and it ain't going to be pretty.

Mayweather Jr. tells Mosley “You’re going to have to earn my respect”

Mayweather Jr. tells Mosley “You’re going to have to earn my respect”
March 21st, 2010

By Esteban Garduno: Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO’s) had some stern words for Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KO’s) in their sit down interview with HBO analyst Max Kellerman recently, saying “Come May 1st, he’s [Mosley] going to have to make me respect his skills.” Mosley and Mayweather will be fighting on May 1st at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a fight that could break the previous pay-per-view record set by Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 when their fight registered over 2 million PPV buys. Richard Schaefer, the CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, predicts that Mayweather-Mosley will bring in over 3 million PPV buys.

He could be right but even if he’s off by small amount, it won’t matter. This fight is likely to be one of the biggest fights in PPV history because it matches two of the most talented fighters in boxing. Mayweather hasn’t been really tested since his close 12 round split decision win over De La Hoya three years ago. Mosley, 38, could be the one to take Mayweather’s ‘0’ away from him and hand him his first loss.

The one that thing that Mosley has going for him is his age. At 38, he’s getting up there in age, and we could see the effects of his age shown against Mayweather. To add to that, Mosley hasn’t fought in over a year since beating Antonio Margarito by a 9th round stoppage last year. Mosley says that it won’t be an issue for him, but you have to wonder whether the ring rust will be there for him in this fight. Mayweather isn’t the type of fighter you want to fight with any kind of ring rust weighing you down.

As for the rest of the interview with Kellerman, Mayweather repeated all his standard lines that he uses in all of his interviews, saying “40 have tried and 40 have failed…etc.” There really wasn’t any new and interesting things that Mayweather said that was any different than what he’s been saying over and over again without stop for the past month. One thing that Mayweather did say was when he gave Mosley credit for beating Margarito, saying “I’m happy for him. He’s a black American, and I’m a black American.”

The rest of it was the boring stuff like “There’s no blueprint on how to beat me.” Mayweather needs to have someone come up with material for him to say before different interviews, because he repeats himself far too much for a talented fighter like him. Comedian Bob Hope had a joke writer that would write material for him every time he would go out in public for an event. If he knew he had to talk even a little, Hope was ready with new things to say. Mayweather says the same thing in every interview. I’m surprised he can’t come up with new stuff on his own.

If Mayweather wins this fight, he’ll have a chance in theory to fight Manny Pacquiao. I don’t for a second believe that Pacquiao will ever face Mayweather, even if he agrees to drop his request for random blood testing. I think Pacquiao will look in another direction rather than take on Mayweather.

Mayweather Jr. vs. Mosley Coming Up? Don’t Bet On It!

Mayweather Jr. vs. Mosley Coming Up? Don’t Bet On It!
January 25th, 2009

shane6745574By Eric Thomas: After Shane Mosley pulled off a huge upset by stopping WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito in the 9th round on Saturday night, it’s suddenly re-energized Mosley’s career and brought him some much needed popularity that has been missing from his career for the past six years or so since he was first defeated by Vernon Forrest. The natural assumption is to want to pair him up with the now retired Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a mega bout that would make both fighters millions of dollars.

However, I don’t see it happening. It’s not that it wouldn’t be a great fight that the boxing public would love to see, it’s that Mayweather seems content in his retirement based on his recent interviews where he describes himself as an entrepreneur.

He the last thing he seemed to want was to step foot back in the ring for some serious training against a good fighter like Mosley. I do see him coming back eventually, but only after he’s depleted much more of his money and is in need of cash. I doubt he would want to come back for a fight against Mosley, though.

Mosley pulled off a good win in defeating Margarito, there’s no doubt about it, but no one is mistaking Mosley for being the number #1 pound for pound fighter in all of boxing. That title still rests with Manny Pacquiao, who earned it the hard way by beating great fighters like Oscar De La Hoya and Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather is the type of fighter that needs big goals to get him motivated and it’s highly unlikely that a fight against Mosley, now 37, would be enough to get him to want to step back in the ring.

The reason being, not only is Mosley getting up there in age at 37, but he’s also been beaten five times – twice by Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright and once by Cotto – and it’s probably not something that would motivate Mayweather.

Even if he did fight and beat Mosley, Mayweather wouldn’t get much credit for having done so due to the advanced age of Mosley and the fact that he’s been beaten five times already by fighters considered below the ability of Mayweather. Mosley may not have proven as much as people think he did in beating Margarito, because the blue print was already made by Cotto in how not to fight Margarito a fight earlier, and all Mosley had to do was fight in the opposite way.

Besides that, Margarito was coming off a brutally hard fight in his fight with Cotto, whereas Mosley had had much less problems in his fight with Ricardo Mayorga. I think people will talk a lot about Mayweather and Mosley fighting, but I don’t give it even a remote chance of happening. If Mayweather does come back, it’s going to be to fight either Ricky Hatton or Pacquiao and not Mosley.

It would be a great fight, but it wouldn’t have enough of a draw probably to break Mayweather out of his year-long inertia.
